The 500 point cohorts were a Lord Diamond invention that would fall under the Special Game service level going forward. Plus it makes it very hard to have evenly balanced games.

no kidding. I seem to recall a Campaigns of Centurion game where I was getting spanked vs. Wulfgar and Sancus, and it turned out that they were using 500 point brigades, and I was not. ouch!

Diws: We warned you in advance and encouraged you to get your own 500 point cohort. We only used those cohorts when we played against other 500 point cohorts at the same time. Otherwise, we switched to the pedestrian mode of regular cohorts. It completely changed the momentum and strategy of the game. It made the games more dynamic, unpredictable and exciting to use the modified cohorts.

Rick: Happy to pay extra for it based upon service level. Only mentioned it for the reasons stated above in my last post.

There is a lot to learn from experimenting in safe scenarios in Campaigns mode which is risk free. But, without the new merc brigades available in Campaigns, the utility of this real-time feedback mode is more for entertainment value and relevant to FoRII characterics and capabilities. That was my original point because Campaigns continues to be based upon the old FoR I model brigade structure.

I do like the 500 poiint cohorts; I just think that there should be some way to identify them immidiately. Maybe something as simple as the persona name being something like 'Diws500', or having the 500 points unlock a different Campaigns option.

I'll ask genome what's involved in updating the mercenaries and maybe changing default influence and rulership, but then I need to leave it up to him as to whether he wants to do it (since he's just put in quite an effort for FoR II). If we get a bunch more players at Commander Level and Up, it certainly would make a better argument for that and the 500 point Special Cohorts.

I think someone else came up with that one. Maybe even Maximus.

Yes. As I recall, Maxi invented it. He indulged me and then Wulfgar with the cohort. He punished me with his own vindictive style of play with his own special 1,000+ point cohort...then LD further enabled others per their request with the 500 point cohorts so a group of us could use them in special games of Campaigns.
