Usually when players give suggestions to future release of Fall of Rome or KOA, their sugestions are within the current conceptual frame: such as adding more of existing types (more diverse kingdom speciality, more character types, more PC types. more building types, more troop types...). I would like to start some discussion on conceptual breakthroughs. 'Nonsynchronous Turn' is a conceptual breakthrough.
Currently, every 3 days, a turn is synchronously updated for all players. So it is a synchronous turn update system. In a 'nonsynchronous-turn-Fall-of-Rome' game system, each player is given a limited number (let's say: 2) of opportunities of issuing one extra order within 3 days. Game engine process this game every 24 hours, but player can only issue orders every 72 hours. In the 'Order' Panel, there is one checkbox called 'extra turn'. This checkbox is defaulted to be unchecked. if the player check this checkbox, (depending on when this checkbox is checked), his orders will be processed at the 24 hours mark or 48 hours mark. if the player attempt to check this checkbox after the 48 hours mark, she will get an error message 'unable to add special turn after 48 hours'. Players who sneaked in one extra turn must remember to issue another turn of order before the expiration of the normal 72 hours time mark. After the player used up his two chance of 'extra turn', she can not squeeze in extra turn within this entire game. (or she may be able to earn extra turn if she accomplish some special tasks the game specifies). Such a nonsynchronous game system make defense much more difficult. Enemy noble can take your PC when your noble are not defending within this extra turn. Legion will default to 'Entrench' when enemy use extra turn to attack. Such a nonsynchronous game allow player to play one or two more turns when she has more time. Those players who has spent their extra turn, has gained early advantage, but lost future flexibility, and may actually in trouble in the long run. Last edited by Beta : 06-18-2009 at 09:03 PM. |
