If I remember right, unusual sightings start off at a lower level. You won't run into a Balrog or a dragon on turn 1 or anytime soon.

I also believe that not all unusual sightings will be on the map at the start of the game. They will be repopulated as the game progresses.

You can always make the descriptions sound very ominous.. "A sense of dread comes over the party and the men refuse to advance any further".
Then you get what you deserve if you get your guys wiped out!

I'd like it a bit more difficult than FOR. I have 0 problems with some nearly unbeatable encounters that sit there on the map for eveyone to see.. That makes it more fun I think. Like you can have encounters that you run across but some map hexes might have a permanent spot where a Dragon lives and it's just a really bad idea to visit that spot unless you put a lot of thought/effort into having the right party/items to kill that dragon. It will also be cool to have a Balrog like encounter. Not an actual Balrog but a strategical location like Moria where if you kill the creature(s) then you have some access to a hidden path (like Moria) or some strategic edge instead of an artifact.

Have no fear, THARIZDUN, some will be more difficult. Everything you have writen here will be in the game or something very similiar to it will be.

So, there is a chance that the elven, or God forbid, the dwarven position, could enlist a Dragon to their cause, as a mount? Flavor-wise, the elves couldn't really grab a Balrog to aid them, nor the Dwarves. How about Ents, and/or Giants, or Earth Elementals? Pegasii, or Unicorns? Shouldn't just have super-strong evil creatures, anyway......

I would like to see an artefact that negates the use of other magic in the vicinity- The Darkstone of Negation? This affects the holder as well as any foe or indeed friend in the same hex.

There could be areas of the world which either hinder or promote the use of magic, similar to Heroes of Might and Magic,

Another antimagic artefact could be the Lodestone of the Abyss...
